ABOUT THE SHOW:
On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed New York City bachelor, Robert, contemplates his unmarried state. Over a series of dinners, drinks, parties, and even a wedding, his married friends examine the pros and cons of sharing your life with a partner. The habitually single Robert is then forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during an array of hilarious, moving, and thought-provoking interactions with the people around him. Company is a fast-moving, deeply-felt modern exploration of loneliness and connection.
Off-Centre Stages’ production of Company will be performed with live pit musicians.
Licensing and Casting Note:
The recent gender-swapped Broadway revival version of Company is NOT licensable.

MOVEMENT: There will be a short movement call. This is not a dance-heavy show, but the production features lots of movement and physical performance. The movement has been prerecorded (explainer and run through) for you to practice in advance. Due to time, multiple reviews may not be possible at auditions, so please come prepared.*
REHEARSALS:
Rehearsals will commence on or around April 19 with a read through, and will be held 2 to 3 times weekly. Additional weekly rehearsals will be added closer to the show, and we will work around summer holidays.
A very tentative rehearsal calendar has been included in the audition materials folder listed above, but please note exact rehearsal days of the week will be determined based on actor availability AFTER casting. This is just to give you a general sense of what the schedule may look like. Not every actor will be called to every rehearsal.
Availability for all performances and tech rehearsals is mandatory.
CONFLICTS:
Conflicts will be collected during your audition registration, and confirmed during the casting process. From there, limited absences will be approved, except in the event of illness or emergency. Excessive absences may result in the recasting of a role. We also ask that you disclose any intentions of rehearsing or performing in another show that overlaps in any way with Company at the time of your audition.
SEEKING:
Roles are open to performers 18+ of all races, gender identities, sexual orientations, body types, and abilities. All roles are Non-Equity, unpaid.
CHARACTER AND CASTING INFORMATION:
Please note that ages and gender presentations described below are of the characters, not necessarily of the actors who play them. Seeking a cast of 14 incredibly engaging actors, movers, and musicians. Note that there is no ensemble. Excellent musicianship is a must for the entire cast.
Each character engages in some form of light onstage intimacy, as many are in committed relationships. Certain characters - including Robert and April - have more explicit intimate scenes. An Intimacy Director will work with each actor and couple to ensure comfort and safety.
**Robert (M) - 35. It’s his birthday. He is perpetually single, and struggling to find genuine connection. Extremely charismatic and insightful - about other people. The protagonist of the piece and constantly onstage. Must have strong command of musicianship and stage presence, and be comfortable with onstage intimacy.
**Joanne (F) - 50s to 60s. Blunt, insightful, and deeply wise. Rich in life and in money. After many failed and boring marriages, now Larry’s wife. Too old to be part of the young crowd, but not old enough to be part of the older crowd. Must have excellent stage presence and command over a room.
**Larry (M) - 50s to 60s. Stoic, thoughtful, and centered. Rich in life and in money. Joanne’s husband, who loves her deeply despite her sometimes blunt behavior and comments.
**Amy (F) - 31. Empathetic, anxious, and sweet. Engaged to Paul, and feeling deeply stressed about the upcoming wedding. One of Robert’s best friends. Must have excellent musicianship and command of timing.
**Paul (M) - 20s to 30s. Devoted, nice, and clingy. Engaged to Amy, and wants nothing more than for her to be happy. Extremely excited about the wedding. One of Robert’s best friends.
**Sarah (F) - 30s to 40s. Hilarious, observant, and critical. She becomes quickly and easily obsessed with new fads; with the current fixation being karate. She is married to Harry, who she loves very much, even when they fight. Must have dynamic comedic timing and be comfortable simulating karate onstage under the guidance of a choreographer.
**Harry (M) - 30s to 40s. Extroverted, loyal, and slightly delusional. He is a recovering alcoholic who is having difficulties staying sober.. He is married to Sarah, who he loves very much, even though he doesn’t understand her own obsessions. Must have dynamic comedic timing and be comfortable simulating karate onstage under the guidance of a choreographer.
**Susan (F) - 30s to 40s. Kind, fearful, and passionate. She is a transplant to New York City from the south. Peter's wife and, eventually, ex-wife. A devoted mother and great friend to Robert.
**Peter (M) - 30s to 40s. Kind, unafraid, and open. Susan's husband and, eventually, ex-husband. A devoted father and great friend - and admirer - of Robert.
**Jenny (F) - 30s to 40s. Observant, quiet, and very intelligent. She’s described as a square, but she has a lot of insight. Deeply in love with her husband, David, and her children. An advocate for Robert to get married.
**David (M) - 30s to 40s. Relaxed, patient, and traditional. Despite some misgivings, believes a man should be married. In love with his wife, Jenny, and his children. An advocate for Robert to get married.
**April (F) - 20s to 30s. Wide-eyed, ditzy, and humorous. A flight attendant who has a homebase in New York City. She is quite odd, but there’s something charming about her. A girlfriend of Robert’s. Must be comfortable with onstage intimacy.
**Marta (F) - 20s to 30s. Extroverted, passionate, and modern. She loves living in New York City and everything that comes with it. A real thirst for life. A girlfriend of Robert’s.
**Kathy (F) - Mid-20s to Mid-30s. Sweet, down-to-Earth, and smart. After years in New York City, she is looking for her next adventure somewhere else. One of Robert’s ex-girlfriends.
**Pit Singers/Swings (M/F) - As needed, we may cast pit singers (who would provide vocals for all chorus numbers) who will also cover roles in the principal cast.
